Course Objectives

Upon completing the course the students would possess the competency to perform the following:

  • Conduct case history: be able to probe for and gather information regarding the patients hearing condition and concomitant factors.
  • Perform Pure Tone Audiometry with Air Conduction and Bone Conduction masking.
  • Determine if a hearing loss is present: if yes the type and degree of the hearing loss
  • Determine how the hearing loss may be impeding the patients’ communication ability and quality of life.
  • Conduct Immittance Audiometry and interpret the results.
  • Correlate PTA and Immittance findings and make the appropriate recommendation for a hearing aid or an ENT referral.
  • Carryout a hearing aid trial successfully and tune a semi digital as well as a fully digital hearing aid according to the patient’s satisfaction.
  • Counsel patients to increase their acceptance level for a hearing aid and give instructions regarding the care and use of hearing aids.
  • Develop a rehabilitation program to ensure optimal use of hearing aid through sessions of fine tuning and counseling.
  • Make the appropriate recommendations for children who are suspect of having a hearing impairment: which diagnostic evaluations need to be carried out.
  • Interpret ABR and OAE results and make hearing aid recommendations based upon those results.
  • Handle clients effectively, responsibly with the utmost courtesy and professionalism to ensure their experience in the audiology department is pleasant and memorable.

Admission Criteria

The admission criteria may be flexible in accordance with the managements’ decision.

  • Education: Minimum Requirement: Candidates who have successfully completed Ordinary Level and Advanced Level Examinations. Candidates must have achieved a minimum requirement of a simple pass (S) for all subjects that they have attempted.
  • The subjects at the Advanced Level Examination: Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Commerce
  • Age: Must be between 19-28 years on the last day set for receiving applications.
